To collect, compile and disseminate all kinds of information and statistics relating to
post primary stages of education in Bangladesh.

To act as the Coordinator in the UIS ( UNESCO Institute for Statistics) activities.

To act as the Apex body for Educational Management Information System and to develop, update & maintain computerized database including Institutional and Teacher’s database for all levels and types of Education Institutions at the post primary level .

To maintain the development, updating and application of the Geographic Information System (GIS) School Mapping on the post primary education institutions for decision making and management of the Ministry of Education and the requirements of other national & international agencies

To analyze and evaluate information and statistics on education and prepare reports , bulletin, etc.

To conduct survey of all types of educational institutions for different indicators
and prepare & publish reports thereof.

To publish various reports on educational information and statistics.

To exchange educational publications, information and data with various national and international organizations and agencies.

To maintain a specialized library containing books, journals, reports, encyclopedia etc. on education and allied subjects.

To conduct educational research activities and prepare reports thereof.

To organize & conduct computer application training to the teachers of higher secondary schools, secondary schools and madrasahs and officials of different organizations

To collect and consolidate information and statistics response to questionnaires and queries from UIS and other international agencies like World Bank, ADB, IDB, UNDP, JICA, CIDA etc.

To compile lists of educational institutions, publish brochures, monographs on educational systems.

To develop and maintain other databases as required by the ministry of education.
